ABOUT US

Our mission is to drive academic researches and developments in human resource management in Taiwan. We are dedicated to training professionals in human resource management; meanwhile, we closely collaborate with the industry to integrate theories and practices in our curriculum and facilitate organizational reinventions and innovations in the Taiwan industry. We aspire to fulfill the HR's role in strengthening the international competitiveness of corporate Taiwan.

1. Mission

We aspire to fulfill the HR's role in strengthening the international competitiveness of corporate Taiwan.

 

2. History

The Institute of Human Resource Management was founded in August 1994 to train professionals in human resource management. In 1999, the executive program was established to support the government's policy of life-long learning. It focused on offering professional training to human resource managerial staff. In 2000, the Ph.D. program was founded to train researchers and faculty for universities and colleges in Taiwan.

There have been 6 directors since the institute was founded. With a total of 727 graduates, there are 401 graduates from the masters' program; 309, executive program; and 17, Ph.D. program.


3. Current Conditions

(1) Faculty

The Institute has six faculty members, including three professors, two associate professors, and one assistant professor. In addition, there are two honorary professors and five adjunct professors. All the faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees from prestigious universities at home and abroad. With papers presented in international journals, they are active in participating in international conferences to present their research results. Being members in academic and professional groups at home and abroad, they are updated with the development of related disciplines.


(2) Admissions

In each year, the Institute conducts screening tests and entrance examinations for the master program (with the admission of 20 students in total), Ph.D. program (with the admission of 1 student), and executive program (with the admission of 24 students). In addition, students from China and abroad are admitted to the master program annually.


(3) Number of students

There are 132 students in the Institute, 57 students in the master program; 68 in the executive program; and 7 in the Ph.D. program.

Program

Graduation requirements (please consult the updated rules and regulations in the academic year of enrollment)

Master

Required credits 41, holder of TOEIC scores at pass level, and completion of master thesis

Ph.D.

Required credits 24, passing the comprehensive examinations or paper published or accepted by journals, points issued for journal publications, holder of 580 in TOEFL PBT, and completion of Ph.D. dissertation

Executive

Required credits 36 and completion of master thesis

 

4.Course

There are three different programs: Ph.D. program, master program, and executive program in the institute, which mainly focus on two major disciplines: human resource management and organization management. Connected with the methodology and operation management courses, the curriculum covers six major areas: basic functions of human resource management, organization management, strategic human resource management, team leadership, operation and management, and research methodology. The master program puts dual emphases on theories and practices. Meanwhile, the Ph.D. program focuses on methodology and basic theory. In addition to fulfilling course requirements, students are expected to take courses in theories or applications. Furthermore, the executive program emphasizes the study of theory, applications, and case studies to cope with the needs of enterprises and the current trends of economic development. With innovative courses offered, it is expected to enhance the results in teaching and learning. In order to offer students in different programs more opportunities in sharing their experiences and knowledge, the students in the master program and executive program are encouraged to exchange frequently.
